Anna laughed, hissing when she stepped on a stone. She leaned against her friend and slipped her foot out of the shoe, massaging her insole.

“Why does this always happen to you?” said Camille. “You never watch where you’re going.”

Anna scrunched her nose at her friend and continued to massage her foot for a minute longer before putting her shoe back on. She noticed a man watching them from across the street and frowned.

“Did we not pass that man moments ago?” she asked. “In fact, I think I saw him more than once in the last half hour.”
